    January 16, 1922 - December 5, 2013

    ADELINE D. FITZGERALD MOUNT SIDNEY, VA Adeline (Douglas) Fitzgerald, 91, widow of Arthur F. "Sonny" Fitzgerald of 72 Salem Church Road, died Thursday, December 5, 2013, in Shenandoah House, Fishersville. She previously lived at 110 Fayette Street in Staunton from 1966 until 2006. She was born January 16, 1922, in Rockbridge County a daughter of the late James W. Sr., and Nollie Dove (Liptrap) Douglas. Mrs. Fitzgerald was a graduate of Craigsville High School, Class of 1940. Prior to retiring in 1984, she was employed by Western State Hospital as a Charge Aide. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Staunton. She loved cooking, antiques, and collecting cook books. In addition to her husband, who preceded her in death in August 1996, she was also preceded in death by three sisters, Virginia Rowe, Daisey Lambert, and Mamie Douglas; and a brother, James W. Douglas, Jr. Family members include a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne D. and Mary Fitzgerald of Mount Sidney; a grandson, B. Frank Fitzgerald of Staunton; a granddaughter, Lisa A. Boyd and husband, Allan; two great grandsons, Austin and Michael Boyd, all of Mount Sidney; three sisters, Lillian Swisher of Craigsville, Emma Hevener of Churchville, and Dessie Powell of Staunton; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, December 9, 2013, in the Staunton First Church of the Nazarene by the Rev. W. David Bailey. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends following the service and at other times at her son's residence. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Shenandoah, P.O. Box 215, Fishersville, VA 22939 or to the Staunton First Church of the Nazarene, 1307 W. Beverley Street, Staunton, VA 24401. The family would like to thank all those who helped with her care from the Hospice of the Shenandoah and Shenandoah House, and especially her niece, Terry Hays. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
