WAYNESBORO, VA…  Alfred Leroy Hartman, 85, widower of Angelia Marie (Miller) Hartman, of Waynesboro, died Friday, September 8, 2017.   He was born on April 20, 1932, in Linville, VA, a son of the late James Roy and Minnie Bell (Mongold) Hartman.  Mr. Hartman served his country in the Army and was in the Korean War.  He retired from Westinghouse, McQuay and Snyder General with 38 years of service.  He operated Al’s Cistern and Carpet Service, sold real estate for 12 years and Sunshine Service for many years.   Mr. Hartman was a member of Hermitage Presbyterian Church, where he served as Deacon, Ruling Elder and Sunday School Superintendent.  Family members include a daughter, Irene Hartman Newman and husband, W. Greg Newman; two grandchildren, Joshua Isaksen and Samantha Isaksen Dupree; a great grandson, Kaiden B. Isaksen. A brother, Paul Hartman and wife, Marie; three sisters, Shirley “Sue” Samuells, Edna Marshall and husband, Calvin and Wanda Gregory and husband, Junior; a step-mother, Ann Hartman; and numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph William Hartman and three sisters, Elsie Irene Hartman Fitzgerald, Stella Allison and Dorothy Thompson.  The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, September 11, 2017 at Hermitage Presbyterian Church.  A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at Hermitage Presbyterian Church by Rev. Dr. H. Wray Sherman.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the Hermitage Presbyterian Church, 46 Hildebrand Road, Waynesboro, VA 22980, Samaritan’s Purse c/o Hurricane Irma Victims, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607, or an animal rescue charity of your choice.
