ALLEEN L. COX FISHERSVILLE, VA… Alleen Lorraine (Lambert) Cox, 91, widow of Joseph A. Cox, died Thursday, September 20, 2018 at Shenandoah Nursing Home, Fishersville. She was born on November 6, 1926, in Augusta County, a daughter of the late Henry Blair and Bertha (McLaughlin) Lambert. Mrs. Cox was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and the Pots and Pans Club; she was past Chairperson and Secretary of the Golden Deeds Sunday School Class and a member of the Adult Fellowship Class.  Alleen had 5,300 hours of volunteer service with King’s Daughters’ Hospital.  Alleen and Joe Cox together visited homebound and nursing home residents for 20 years. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Avery Cox III; and two brothers, Alvin Douglas Lambert and Charles Blair Lambert. Surviving family members include a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Cox and Kenneth Massie; a granddaughter, Denise Massie Mitchell and her husband, Donald; a grandson, Joseph Travis Massie and his wife, Candice; great-grandchildren, Sara and Clay Mitchell, Savannah and Kendall Massie; a step-great-granddaughter, Emily Mitchell; and a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 24, 2018, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church by the Rev. Norman Ramsey.  Burial will follow at Thornrose Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Adult Fellowship Class and the Board of Ushers. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 2000 Shutterlee Mill Road, Staunton, VA 24401 or to the Alzheimer's Association, 355 Rio Road West, Suite 102 Charlottesville, VA 22901.  Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
