ALLEN W. PFEIFFER STAUNTON, VA… Allen Warfield Pfeiffer, 91, died Friday morning, March 18, 2016, in Staunton. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama, on Christmas Day, 1924, a son of the late Curtis E. Pfeiffer, Sr. and Irene (Olmutz) Pfeiffer. He was the last remaining member of his immediate family, preceded in death by his brother, Curtis E. Pfeiffer, Jr. Graduating as a student leader and athlete from Robert E. Lee High School in Staunton in 1942, he then served in the Army during World War II. Subsequently, he attended college at Murray State in Kentucky and Randolph Macon in Virginia. He was a professional baseball player for five years as a pitcher in the farm system for the Philadelphia Athletics. Following that, he had a management career in the paving industry, and after retirement, worked in security at ASR. Family members include two nieces, Kathryn P. Holsinger and Nancy P. Walden (Mack) of Staunton; a grandnephew, J. Scott Holsinger of Reston; a grandniece, Lauri H. Painter (Chris) of Wilmington, NC; and great grandnieces, Lanie K. Painter and Karlee A. Painter of Wilmington, NC. He not only will be well remembered as a devoted and beloved son, brother, uncle, neighbor, and friend, but as a master of the humorous quip. Special thanks to golf buddy/nephew, Mack Walden, for helping Uncle Al to live independently in his final years. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 21, 2016, in Thornrose Cemetery by the Rev. Jo Ann Bunn. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
