GREENVILLE, VA… Ann Massie (Day) Smiley, 74, widow of Harold A. “Jug” Smiley, of 79 Old Providence Road, died Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at her residence. She was born June 27, 1941 in Rockbridge County, a daughter of the late Percy Stuart and Henrietta (Sweet) Day. She was a member of Old Providence ARP Church. Family members include a step-son, Jeff Smiley and wife, Kathy, of Chesapeake; four daughters, Wilma J. Fridley of Craigsville, Barbara A. Lawhorn of Staunton, Debra L. Harris and husband, Larry, of Grottoes, and Ellen H. Martin and husband, William “Bill”, of Craigsville; four sisters, Frona Steele and her husband, Dave, of Fairfield, Betty J. Carawon of Newport News, Dorothy Harlow of Staunton, and Henrietta King and husband, Layne, of Raphine; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Marie Johnson and husband, David, Casey Leigh Taylor, William Christopher “Will” Martin, Patricia Martin-Smith and husband, John, Taylor Smiley, Allison Robinson, and Timmy Harris; five great grandchildren, Derek, London and Alicia Johnson, Jake Coffey and Madeline Smith; a special niece, Carol King; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband who was the love of her life, she was preceded in death by a grandson, J.C. Tolley; the father of her children, Roscoe J. Lawhorn; a son-in-law, William “Bill” Fridley; four brothers, George W. Day, Henry “Pete” Day, Hansford “Hank” Day, and James B. “Jim” Day; and a sister, Lucy Norcross. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2016 in Old Providence ARP Cemetery by the Rev. David Taylor. Active pallbearers will be Derek Johnson, William “Bill” Martin, Jr., Gary Sutton, Larry Harris, Mike Taylor, and Spencer Midkiff. The family will receive friends anytime at the residence. Memorials may be made to Mt. Joy Presbyterian Church, 4709 Cold Springs Road, Raphine, VA 24472 or to the Raphine Fire Department, P.O. Box 142, Raphine, VA 24472. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
