ARMENIA H. BUCHANAN MIDDLEBROOK, VA Armenia Bell (Helmick) Buchanan, 85, devoted wife of the late Herman Rufus Buchanan, of 1111 Summerdean Road, died Monday, March 3, 2014, at her residence. She was born May 27, 1928, in Augusta County, a daughter of the late Hiram Sylvester and Nina Mae (Strickler) Helmick. Armenia was generous and caring to all over the years and was known as "MawMaw" and friend to many. She was devoted to her Lord and her church. Family members include four sons and three daughters-in-law, Donnie Buchanan of the home, Ronnie and Esther Buchanan of Staunton, Lonnie and Dottie Buchanan of McKinley, and Marcus and Peggy Buchanan of Stuarts Draft; two daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda and Billy Strickler of Staunton and Alice and Dickie McLain of Middlebrook; eight grandchildren, Dwight Strickler and wife, Mandy, Jay Strickler and wife, Ashley, Scott Buchanan and wife, Tabitha, H.A. Buchanan and wife, Natalie, Greg Strickler, Andy Buchanan, Timmy Buchanan, and Amanda Shipp and husband, Michael; eight great grandchildren, Tiffany, Kristy, Jordan, and Trenton Strickler, Colton, Emma, Caleb, and Megan Buchanan, and Chloe Auville; two sisters, Betty Earhart and Ella Jordan, both of Staunton; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a stillborn daughter in 1958, Nina Marie Buchanan; a brother, William Helmick; and two sisters, Lula Mae Huffman and Cornelia Helmick. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 7, 2014, in Laurel Hill Full Gospel Church by the Revs. William Strickler, Peter Grimm, and Justin Roadcap. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens at 2:30 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2014, due to weather. Active pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Mandy and Michael Shipp, Mandy, Jordan, Trenton, Ashley, Tiffany, and Kristy Strickler, Colton, Tab, Natalie, Caleb, and Emma Buchanan., Chloe Auville, Dr. Lynn Moore, Mark Kresky, and Mia Botkin. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014, in the Henry Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Mission Fund of Laurel Hill Full Gospel Church, 53 Adams Lane, Verona, VA 24482. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Lynn Moore and Eloise, special caregiver, Kim Sites, and caregivers Tabitha Balser and Crystal Hedrick.
