ARTHUR N. WHITESELL, JR. STAUNTON, VA Arthur Newcomb "Tom" Whitesell, Jr., 76, husband of Nancy L. (Hayes) Whitesell of 1216 Springhill Road 24401, died Sunday, September 1, 2013 at Augusta Health. Mr. Whitesell was born on November 24, 1936 in Waynesboro, son of the late Arthur N. and Flossie Virginia (Nutty) Whitesell. He served four years in the United States Army, two of which were served on Okinawa. He was a member of Olivet Presbyterian Church for over twenty years, serving as an elder, trustee, and Sunday school teacher. He was Vice Commander of the American Legion Post #13, past president of Augusta Lions Club and past Exalted Ruler of BPOE #351. During his career he was employed as Service Manager of Good News Mazda, Owner/operator of Northside Gulf Service Center, Owner/operator of Whitesell's Exxon Service Center, and Office Manager of Dod Oil Co. Prior to his retirement he was Service Manager of Augusta Farm Bureau Service Center. Mr. Whitesell was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. His is survived by his wife Nancy whom he married January 14, 1956. Additional family members include four children, Tommie Sue Whitesell Crosby and her husband Derik Harris, Teresa Gail Whitesell, Michael Shawn Whitesell and his wife Angela and David Alan Whitesell; four grandchildren, Matthew Crosby and his wife Mandie, Kimberly Smith and her husband Richard, Molly Whitesell, and Emma Grace Whitesell; five great-grand children, Kahlan and Caleb Campbell, and Martha, Sean, and Joseph Wells; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby and Pat Whitesell, Freddie and Jackie Whitesell, and Benny and Carrie Whitesell; special family member Sharon Paxton; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 6, 2013 at Olivet Presbyterian Church by the Reverend Lee Thomas. Burial will follow at Augusta Memorial Park. Active pallbearers are David Riel, Jessie Douglas, Steve Toman, Gene Hayes, Scott Walberg, Dale Moran, Phil Balsley and Derik Harris Honorary pallbearers are Paul Duncan, David Walton, Phil Phillips, Tom Brown, Buck Brown, and his McDonald's Breakfast Club. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. , Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Henry Funeral Home. The family wishes to thank Dr. Chernoff, the Doctors, Nurses and Staff of Augusta Health for the loving care they gave "Tom". He loved them all dearly and considered them members of his family.
