Barbara Ethel Blackwell

BARBARA S. BLACKWELL STAUNTON - Barbara Ethel (Smith) Blackwell, 76, widow of Edward Martin Blackwell, died at 12:20 a.m. on Sunday (July 29, 2012) at the home of her son. She was born December 9, 1935 in Albemarle County, daughter of the late Paul Henry and Gracie (Pannill) Smith. She retired from the American Frontier Culture Museum. Barbara was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church where she was active with the United Methodist Women of St. John's. Family includes two sons and daughters-in-law, Eric and Sarah Blackwell of Staunton, and Douglas and Lynda Blackwell of Phoenix, Arizona; a daughter, Stacey Blackwell of Staunton; one brother, Clifford Smith; three sisters, Charlotte Harris, Julia Carter, and Mildred Davis; and six grandchildren, Alysse, Ethan, Samuel, Olivia, Britteny, and Bryson Blackwell. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Harry, and Randolph. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00am on Thursday, August 2 at St. John's United Methodist Church by the Rev. Dr. Patricia M. Meadows. Burial will be private. Family will receive friends at Henry Funeral Home on Wednesday evening, August 1, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00pm and other times at the home of her son, Eric Blackwell, 1539 Middle River Road, Staunton.
