Barbara Jean Bowman

STAUNTON, VA Barbara Jean (Reid) Bowman, 80, widow of James Pendleton Bowman, died Tuesday, March 10, 2015 in Kings Daughters Community Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on July 25, 1934 in Toccoa, GA, a daughter of the late Henry Ben and Dollie (Crisp) Slaton. Mrs. Bowman was previously self-employed as a bookkeeper and was a member of Second Presbyterian Church. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved antiquing and entertaining. Family members include a son and daughter-in-law, David Pendleton and Joann Bowman of Martinsburg, WV; a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and the Rev. Mark Davis of Monterey; two grandchildren, Lauren Elizabeth Davis and Ryan James Bowman; two brothers, Samuel Slaton of Hiawassee, GA and Benny Slaton of Mt. Airy, GA; and a sister, Lynn Tench of Alto, GA. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Esther Brady and Faye Simmons. A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 pm, Friday, March 13 in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Mark Davis. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be David Bowman, Bryant Tench, Charlie Hildebrand, Neal Sawyers, William Kluth, Jr., and Samuel Slaton. Honorary pallbearers will be Benny Slaton, Lauren Davis and Ryan Bowman. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Thursday, March 12 at the funeral home.
