Barbara D. Riel

Barbara May (Dysard) Riel, 78, wife of David A. Riel of Staunton, died Sunday, November 12, 2017 at Augusta Nursing & Rehab.    She was born March 29, 1939, in Covington, VA, a daughter of the late William A Dysard, Sr. and Eula C. (May) Dysard.    Prior to retirement, she was employed by the Central Intelligence Agency, the Institute for Defense Analysis, and AVCO/Lycoming in Washington, DC as a secretary.  Barbara was a member of Olivet Presbyterian Church where she was past Chair of Circle 3.  Other memberships included; past Regent for Beverley Manor Chapter of DAR, member of Turner Ashby Chapter of UDC, and Woodrow Wilson Lioness Lions Club.    In addition to her husband of 59 years, family members include two daughters, Catherine R. Salas (Mark) of Alexandria and Sara E. Riel of Staunton; two grandchildren, Christian David and Gabriela Hyde Salas of Alexandria; a brother Rev. William A. Dysard (Dorothy) of Matthews, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.    A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 16, 2017, in Olivet Presbyterian Church by Rev. Lee Thomas.    Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class and Circle 3 of Olivet Presbyterian Church, Turner Ashby Chapter of UDC, and Woodrow Wilson Lioness Lions Club.   The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and other times at the residence.    Memorials may be made to the church memorial fund, Olivet Presbyterian Church, 1019 Richmond Road, Staunton, VA 24401.
