GREENVILLE, VA Beatty Lee "B.L. Speck, 87, husband of Josephine (Farrar) Speck, of 868 Broadhead School Road, died December 22, 2012 at his residence. He was born February 18, 1925, in Greenville, a son of the late William Beatty and Rebecca (Kennedy) Speck. Mr. Speck was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church where he was a former Deacon. He was a 1942 graduate of Valley High School and attended William and Mary College. He was a charter member of the Greenville Ruritan Club. He served two terms on the Board of Supervisors Riverheads District where he served as chairman and vice chairman. He was a former member and vice president of the Virginia Association of Counties. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Mid States Wool Corp of Columbus, OH. He was also a member of the Augusta Sheep and Wool Producers. In addition to his wife of 62 years, family members include a son, W. B. Speck of Greenville; three nieces, Katherine Mozark, Becky Allison and Julie Farrar-Hersch; and three nephews, George and David Allison, and Allen Farrar. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy S. Allison. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 28, 2012 in Thornrose Cemetery by the Rev. Max Bolin. Active pallbearers will be Eric Earhart, Roy Smiley, Johnny Berry, Ronnie Rohr, Jr., Charles Barger, Jack Nicewander, David Novak, and Eddie Clausen. Honorary pallbearers will be Benny Armstrong, Hampton Fauber, Clay Earhart, Sam Earhart, and members of the Back Creek Hunt Club of Mountain Grove in Bath County. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2012 in Henry Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Bethel Presbyterian Church, 563 Bethel Green Road, Staunton, VA 24401 or to the American Diabetes Association, 4335 Cox Road, Glen Allen, VA 23060 or to Charity of Ones Choice. The family is requesting that no food be brought to the residence.
