Berl H. Patterson

SPOTTSWOOD, VA… Berl H. Patterson, 87, husband of Sandra D. Patterson, of Spottswood, died Friday, March 31, 2017 at his residence. He was born November 12, 1929, in Augusta County, a son of the late Harry W. and Beulah (Weeks) Patterson. Berl was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was a longtime member of Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church where he held many positions and was the past President of the Future Farmers of America at Spottswood High School.  Berl was an avid basketball player and in 1950 was Captain of the Virginia State Championship basketball intramural team for the Spottswood Athletic Club.  Berl farmed cattle and grain on Millstone Farms in Spottswood for over 80 years.  He was on the Board of Directors for the Augusta Cooperative Farm Bureau, Augusta Petroleum and Farm Service Agency. In addition to his wife of 60 years, family members include his children, Mark Patterson and his wife Jennie; Kimberly Allen and her husband Steve; Ruffner Patterson and his wife Taysha; and Laura Strickler and her husband Mark; and grandchildren, Jake and Lane Patterson and Ashlyn and Colin Patterson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Helen Supple, Cyril Patterson, John Patterson and Richard Patterson. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April, 5, 2017, at Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church Cemetery by Rev. Olivia Haney. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt.
