BETTY R. COOK STAUNTON, VA Betty Jean (Ralston) Cook, 80, wife of Fred Allen Cook, of Staunton, died Monday, August 19, 2013, at her residence. She was born March 14, 1933, in Churchville, a daughter of the late William Hinton and Nellie (Ashby) Ralston. Mrs. Cook graduated as Valedictorian from Churchville High School and attended Mary Baldwin College. She was an active member of Loch Willow Presbyterian Church. Prior to retirement, she worked for Social Services and most recently was a medical secretary for Dr. Hereford. In addition to her husband, family members include seven children and their spouses, Susan and Robert Vincent, Sarah and Jesse Horner, Ann and Larry Allanson, Teresa Cook, Karen and Kenny Schnell, Mark and Jean Cook, and Jeff and Trina Cook; one sister, Mary Jo Hawkins; two brothers, William Ralston and John Ralston; fifteen grandchildren, Matthew and Katherine Horner, Benjamin and Joshua McDevitt, Dylan and Morgan Allanson, Brendan and Hannah Schnell, Megan and Nicole Cook, Jill and Nick Cook, Leslie (Cook) Tate, Cecilia and Sam Vincent; and one great grandchild, Noah Horner. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at Loch Willow Presbyterian Church by Pastor Reed Hopkins. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be her grandsons. The family will receive friends following the burial at Loch Willow Presbyterian Church and other times at the residence. There will be no public viewing.
