Betty Hevener Cook

BETTY H. COOK VERONA, VA Betty Hevener Cook, 63, wife of Charles Cook, of 29 Dogwood Lane, passed away Monday, July 20, 2015, at her home. She lost the battle but won the race. She was born January 5, 1952, in Augusta County, a daughter of Willie (Ryder) Lockridge and the late Edgar Hevener. Prior to retirement, she was employed by Fairfield Echols as a bookkeeper. Mrs. Cook was a member of Verona United Methodist Church, the Esther Women's Circle and volunteered at the Church's Food Pantry. She liked to read and work the search and find puzzles, but mostly loved spending time with her family. In addition to her mother and husband of 44 years, family members include a son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Ashley Cook; a sister, Sandra Meade; two nephews, Dean Meade and Jeremy Meade; and many good neighbors and church family. In addition to her father, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Danny Hevener. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2015, in Oaklawn Cemetery by the Rev. Robert J. Weeks. The family would like to give a special thanks to the Rev. Jeff Allen, the visiting pastor for Verona United Methodist Church. There will be no formal visitation at the funeral home. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1445 E. Rio Road, Suite 104, Charlottesville, VA 22901 or Verona United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 47, Verona, VA 24482.
