Betty Jane Cummings

STAUNTON, VA Betty Jane (Cook) Cummings, 84, went to be with her Lord Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at King's Daughters' Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born March 21, 1929, in Staunton a daughter of the late Glen H. and Hannah P. (Thompson) Cook. Prior to retirement, Mrs. Cummings was employed by Planters Bank. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and Gypsy Hill AARP. Family members include three sons, Charles L "Chuck" Cummings of Staunton, Timothy G. Cummings of Hickory, North Carolina, and Jonathan P. Cummings of Staunton; a sister-in-law, Nancy L. Cook of Spring, Texas; and six grandchildren, Hannah D. Cummings, Lee Cummings, Mary K. Cummings, Sarah E. Cummings, Will Cummings, and Emily V. Cummings. She was preceded in death by a brother, William H. Cook; a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy Lee and Alton Gray Fulk; and a daughter-in-law, Kay Cummings. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2013, in St. Paul's United Methodist Church by the Rev. Barbara Sawyer and the Rev. Wade Munford. Active pallbearers will be Bill Lockridge, Raymond T. Conner, Jr., Paul Hinkle, Wilbur "Fee" Detamore, John Dillon, Larry Snead, Andy Detamore, Burk Hershey, Jack Earhart, and Tom Fleisher. Members of the We Care Ministry, which was founded by Betty Cummings, will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2013 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
