Betty Ann Desper Wikel

BETTY D. WIKEL STAUNTON, VA… Betty Ann Desper Wikel, Born October 27, 1926- June 1, 2018, Staunton, Virginia…a kind, loving friend and mother. Betty, born and raised in Staunton, worked at the former E.I. DuPont in Waynesboro, eventually leaving DuPont, choosing to be a “stay at home mom” to raise her son. Her passions were singing in the church choir and working in her beautiful flower gardens. She was a member of the Memorial Baptist Church in Staunton. For several years, she was a member of the Staunton Moose Lodge where she helped her husband raise member donations from Moose Lodges throughout Virginia. They used the funds to purchase several brand new school buses that were then donated to the Moose Heart Child City & School in Mooseheart, Illinois. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, William Laird Wikel, Sr.; brothers Stanley Desper, William, Billy, Bobby, and Edward Desper; her mother Goldie Margaret Fridley Desper and father William Madison Desper. Betty is survived by her son William L. Wikel, Jr. and wife Concetta Ann; grandchildren, Lisa, Jennifer, Christine, Jeanette, and Geoffrey; and 6 great grandchildren. There will be no viewing or formal service. The Family thanks those who expressed their sympathy and prayers. Special thanks to all Betty’s friends, fellow church members, and family whom helped her in her time of need. Peace be with you ALL. Psalm 62:5 “My soul, wait in silence for God only, For my hope is from Him.” Betty will be buried in the Thornrose Cemetery Staunton, Virginia. There will be a brief graveside service for family and friends weather permitting on Friday, June 8, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
