    BETTY BERNICE ELLIOTT

    January 9, 1925 - April 15, 2014

BETTY W. ELLIOTT RAPHINE, VA Betty Bernice (Walters) Tankesley Elliott, 89, widow of Moffett "Mike" Garland Elliott, of 85 Beulah Land Drive, Raphine, died Tuesday, April 15, 2014 in Blue Ridge Christian Home. She was born January 9, 1925 in Rockbridge County, a daughter of the late Thomas Hall and Annabelle (Madison) Walters. Prior to retirement, Mrs. Elliott was a librarian with Alderman Library at University of Virginia. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, Corporal Elmer Franklin Tankesley, who was killed in action in France during World War II; and her daughter, Alice L. Tankesley. Family members include a son and daughter-by-marriage, Elmer F. "Frankie"and Gail Tankesley of Greenville; four grandchildren, Vince Smith, Kaki (Todd) Coffey, Shannon (Phil) Hardison, and Melanie (Troy) Coffey; seven great grandchildren, Jordan Gray, Kara Coffey, Aaron Gray, Austin Hardison, Zachary Gray, Wyatt Coffey, and Sam Partridge; and two sisters-in-law, Marguerite Simonetti and Hazel Tankesley. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday (April 19, 2014) in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Matt Coiner. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Jordan Gray, Aaron Gray, Troy Coffey, Todd Coffey, Philip Hardison, and Austin Hardison. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. As a survivor of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, the family requests memorials be made to Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah, P.O. Box 215, Fishersville, VA 22939. Grandma Betty/Nanny Elliott gathered her family together for meals at Thanksgiving and Easter. We always looked forward to those times of being together and enjoying good food. Her handmade gifts were treasures and even more so today. Her door was always open to us and we love those memories. We are so grateful for the care Betty received at Stuarts Draft Christian Home and for the past six years at Blue Ridge Christian Home.
