BETTY M. GORDEN SPOTTSWOOD, VA Betty (McCurdy) Gorden, 79, wife of James R. "Bobby" Gorden, of 1313 Almo Chapel Road, Spottswood, passed away peacefully, Thursday, August 15, 2013, at Augusta Health, Fishersville. Betty was a faithful member of Old Providence Church where she and Bobby were married December 19, 1952. She enjoyed baking and canning, but her greatest joy was sharing her "goodies" with family, friends and neighbors. She had a good heart and was always ready to reach out and help those she cared about. She will be missed by many. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Una (Swisher) McCurdy and her grandparents, William and Carrie McCurdy and Clarence and Carrie Swisher. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Martha Earhart and husband, Kenny, Emily Seaman and husband, Bobby, and Robert Wayne Gorden and wife, Donna; six grandchildren, Christopher and wife, Rosa, Amanda, Chad and wife, Chrissey Groah, Jennifer Rea and husband, Thomas and R W and Michael Gorden and wife, Brandie; and three great grandchildren, Raven Groah, Emily and Brody Rea. She leaves behind two sisters whom were very dear, Lib Bowyer and husband, Wilson, and Lorene Steele; a brother-in-law, Tommy Gorden and wife, Jan; and sisters-in-law, Mary Helen Ayers and Jane Peters and husband, Murphy. A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, August 18, 2013, in Old Providence ARP Church by the Rev. H. Max Bolin. Burial will be private. Active pallbearers will be her grandsons and nephew, Eddie Steele. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday, August 17, 2013 in the Henry Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Kingsway Ministries, 797 Spottswood Road, Spottswood, Virginia 24476 or to the cemetery fund of Old Providence Church, 1005 Spottswood Road, Spottswood, VA 24476.
