Betty Jean Smith Watson

Betty Jean Smith Watson, age 88, Kingsport, TN died on January 23, 2018.  She was a native of Birmingham, Alabama and had resided in Kingsport for over 50 years.  She most recently resided in Staunton, VA near her daughter.  She received her BS degree from Auburn University in 1951 in Medical Technology.  She worked at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY and later at Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center as a Medical Technologist.  She then worked at Medex Laboratories as a Laboratory Supervisor until her retirement.  She was an elder in the Presbyterian church and was a member of Waverly Road Presbyterian Church in Kingsport, TN.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Richard Morey Watson and her parents, Gilbert Fram Smith and Lela Wood Smith. Survivors include her three children, Gilbert Morey Watson, Churchill, TN; Richard Alan Watson and wife Melanie Odom Watson of Murfreesboro, TN; and Nancy Watson Reese and husband John Theodore Reese of Staunton, VA; and a brother, James E. Smith and wife Ann of Birmingham, AL.  She had five grandchildren, Kara Watson Woody of Annandale, VA, Alan Thomas Watson of Nolensville, TN, Branson Charles Reese of New York City, NY, Benjamin Watson Reese of Chicago, IL and Taylor Elizabeth Reese of Chicago, IL.  She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, William James Watson, Luke Alan Watson, Anna Lynn Woody, and Sophie Elizabeth Woody. Services will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Waverly Road Presbyterian Church in Kingsport, TN.  Memorial gifts can be made to the library at Waverly Road Presbyterian Church.
