    BEVERLEY VIRGINIA BEARD

    August 22, 1918 - August 18, 2011

    BEVERLEY F. BEARD STAUNTON, VA Beverley Virginia (Fallis) Beard, 92, widow of Earl Raymond Beard, formerly of Staunton, died Thursday, August 18, 2011, in Augusta Nursing and Rehab Center, Fishersville. She was born August 22, 1918, in Roanoke, a daughter of the late Samuel Crosby and Rebecca (Bradfield) Fallis. Mrs. Beard was a graduate of the Shenandoah Conservatory of Music in Dayton with a degree in Music and James Madison University receiving her masters degree in Music Education. Prior to retirement, she was employed as an elementary school music teacher in the Augusta County School System with 14 years of service and was choir director at First Baptist Church in Staunton, Christ Lutheran Church in Staunton, and Laurel Hill Baptist Church in Verona. She was a member of Laurel Hill Baptist Church. She was a member of the King's Daughters' Hospital Auxiliary and was involved in the merger of King's Daughters' Hospital and Waynesboro Hospital when it became Augusta Medical Center. She was also active in the King's Daughters' Thrift Shop in Staunton. In addition to her husband who preceded her in death on June 2, 2004, she was also preceded in death by a brother, William Fallis; and a sister, Margaret Jones. Family members include a son and daughter-in-law, Samuel Taylor and Teresa (Perdue) Beard of Stuarts Draft; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan (Beard) and Freddie Strickler of Raphine; and three grandchildren, Steven, Alyssa, and Olivia Beard. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m Monday, August 22, 2011, in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Michael Winters. Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911, to the Augusta Nursing and Rehab Center, 83 Crossroads Lane, Fishersville, VA 22939, or to Brightview at Baldwin Park, 31 Woodlee Road, Staunton, VA 24401.
