Boyd Ernest Cook, Sr.

BOYD E. COOK, SR. SWOOPE, VA… Boyd Ernest Cook, Sr., 91, husband of Emily Geraldine (Hammer) Cook, of Swoope, died Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at his residence. He was born April 1, 1926 in Augusta Springs, a son of the late Marshall Wilson Cook and Lenore (Bird) Cook. Boyd was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in WWII.Prior to retirement, he was employed by Dupont with 40 years of service. He enjoyed all sports, coaching little league, and traveling.   In addition to his wife of 70 years, family members include four sons, Boyd “Bodie” Cook and wife, Liz, Gary Cook, Kevin Cook, and David Cook and wife, Kelly, all of Staunton; four grandchildren, Summer Roach and husband, Jesse, of Waynesboro, Scotti Lanford of Atlanta, GA, Taylor Cook and Gunner Cook both of Staunton; and four great grandchildren, Brynlee and Hudson Roach and Karagan and Emily Lanford. He was preceded in death by a brother, Marshall W. Cook. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, January 8, 2018 in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Clay Sterrett. Burial will be in Thornrose Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Shenandoah Valley Animal Services, 1001 Mt. Torrey Road, Lyndhurst, VA 22952 or Swoope Volunteer Fire Department, 697 Parkersburg Turnpike, Staunton, VA 24401.
