GREENVILLE, VA… Buryl Garland Brooks, 85, husband of Lorene (Carr) Brooks, of Greenville, died Saturday, April 1, 2017 at his residence. He was born on October 28, 1931 in Vesuvius, a son of the late Ulyses H. and Ora (Houser) Brooks. Mr. Brooks was a faithful member of Vesuvius Baptist Church where he served many years as deacon, Sunday School teacher, a choir member and various other services.  He was also a member of The Good News Gospel Quartet from January 1972 to September 1983. In addition to his wife of 15 years, family members include a daughter, Linda Brooks Adkins (Butch); three sisters, Millie Potter of Staunton, Evelyn Sensabaugh of Raphine and Bential (Francis) Groah of Vesuvius; two grandsons, Jason Powers and Darby Powers; a great grandson, Ethan Powers; a great granddaughter, Evelyn Powers; three step-daughters, Carr-Lou Davis, Dottie Sue VanFossen (Curtis) and Cyndy Hays (Mike); three step-granddaughters, Carrsha Eavers (Matt), Tessa Williams (Ben) and Lily Hays; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Brooks was preceded in death by four brothers, Hewett, Forest, Bruce and Gray Brooks; a step-grandson, Dylan Hays and a great grandson, Evan Powers. He was also preceded in death by his first wife of fifty-one years, Mildred Snyder Brooks. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April, 4, 2017 by Rev. Tyler Clem at Vesuvius Baptist Church.  Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Forest Brooks, Troy Phillips, Lenny Phillips, Euley Phillips, William Garvey, Terry Groah, Terry Brooks, and Alan Powers. Honorary pallbearers will be John Earhart, Joey Ham, Doug Snyder, Calvert Fitzgerald, Bobby Seaman, Richard Bradley, Tommy Groah, Richards Brooks, Roy Brooks, John Whitesell, George Coffey, and Henry Black. Family will receive friends 6 - 8 p.m. on Monday, April 3, 2017 at Henry Funeral Home and other times at the residence, 5711 Lee Jackson Highway, Greenville, VA 24440. Memorials may be made to Vesuvius Baptist Church, PO Box 575, Vesuvius, VA 24483.
