Bernita Clifton “Bonnie” (Vines) Smiley, 84, wife of James William Smiley Sr., of Staunton, departed this life on Tuesday, December 1, 2020.

She was born September 8, 1936 in Staunton, a daughter of the late Guy Lyle Vines and Ruth (Kershner) Bosserman.

Bernita was employed by Augusta Cooperative for 30 plus years and was that little lady in clothing and shoes.

Mrs. Smiley was a faithful member of the Fifth Street United Brethren Church for 50 plus years. She loved to sing and work with the children.

In addition to her husband of 64 years, family members include three sons, Charles Lyle Smiley and wife Melessa of Staunton, James William Smiley Jr. and wife Terry of Staunton, and Bruce Smiley of Deerfield; a sister, Betty Lou Daggy; grandchildren, Tina, Alyssa and husband Brandon, Brittany, Schyler and wife Taylor, Bristol, and Britten; great grandchildren, Carly and Jayden; and two step grandchildren, Wyatt and Brylee.

She was preceded in death by a brother, John L. Vines and a sister, Wanda M. Doyle.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 6, 2020 in Hebron Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Friends may pay their respects at Henry Funeral Home on Saturday, December 5, 2020 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
