Betty Ann Landes

Betty Ann (Fravel) Landes, of Greenville, VA, joined her Heavenly Father on Sunday, December 6, 2020, at her home. She was 89 years young.

She was born on July 23, 1931, and was the daughter of the late Robert Roland and Mayme Rhoene (Smith) Fravel.

She was preceded by the love of her life, Edward Daniel Landes, Sr. with whom she shared 59 beautiful years. She was a wonderful wife and she adored Ed with all of her heart.

She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert (GeorgeAnna) Fravel and Frank (Joyce) Fravel.

She was an incredible mother who loved her children, Sharon Ann (Landes) Roadcap of Greenville and Edward Daniel (Danny) Landes, Jr., of Cold Springs. She also leaves behind her wonderful son-in-law, John Thomas (Tommy) Roadcap and wonderful daughter-in-law, Juanita (Lotts) Landes.

“Maw-Maw” had a very special place in her heart for her grandchildren, Jeremy Daniel Landes and his wife, Lisa, of Waynesboro, VA and Tiffany Dawn (Jenkins) Trippeer of Greenville.

“Maw-Maw” dearly loved her great-grandchildren, Ashley Danielle (Donald) Knox of Greenville, Emily Grace, Cassidy Ann, and Madison Danielle Trippeer of Greenville, Diamond Brooke and Jeremy David Landes of Waynesboro and Blake Campbell of Waynesboro; one great, great granddaughter, Maci Danielle McGann of Greenville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty retired from American Safety Razor with 34 years service as a Blade Inspector. She was quite the local celebrity when she was picked to be the TV show “What’s My Line” in October 1962. She stumped the panel and won $50.00 because they couldn’t figure out her occupation. Betty was supported by local businesses in downtown Staunton by giving her the dress she wore on the show from Leggett’s, Snyder’s Jewel Box gave her the jewelry and Margo Kent painted a beautiful portrait for her to keep.
Betty was a dedicated member of Pines Chapel Presbyterian Church having been elected the first lady Elder and she was a member of Pines Chapel Women having served in several capacities. Betty served on the Board of Directors for Kingsway Help Center in Spottswood. She was an active member of the Gypsy Hill AARP #3972 until this last year. Betty and Ed had special time with their many friends doing work for the community and sharing good meals in this wonderful organization.

Betty loved the spring time when all was in bloom. She marveled at the sight of everything new and always wondered where the leaves and flowers had been all winter. “How could you not believe all this beauty that the Lord has surely provided for us all?”

Betty loved all the animals that seemed to just pass through and sometimes live with her and Ed. Her compassion and grace served her well.

Betty was a gentle lady who loved her life and her family. She was kind and always had a nice word to say to everyone. She never met a stranger and she passed these values on to her family who are very proud.
Betty cherished the years she spent with Ed and she was told every day how much she was loved. Sharon and Danny had the best mother in the world who spent her life making their life wonderful. She had a great sense of humor that she shared with us all. Betty was a precious gift.
