CALVIN C. COYNER STAUNTON, VA Calvin Carr Coyner, 96, husband of Hortense (Printz) Coyner of 34 Birchwood Road, died Friday July 1, 2011 at his residence. He was born January 31, 1915 in Christian, Virginia, a son of the late Willard Houston and Lelia M. (Whitesell) Coyner. Prior to retirement, Mr. Coyner was employed for 43 years in the powerhouse at DuPont. He was a member of Olivet Presbyterian Church, where he was an Elder. He was an avid gardener who was famous for his tomatoes and he enjoyed golfing and fishing. In addition to his wife, family members include two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy Coyner and Ed Kratzer of Fairfax and Kathy Coyner and David Triplett of Blowing Rock, NC; two brothers, Russel K. Coyner of Fishersville and Leonard Coyner of Ruckersville; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Ellen and Milford Hartman of Stuarts Draft, Netta Mae Holton of Bridgewater, and Gladys Crosby of Churchville; and three grandsons, Michael, Eric, and Tim Kratzer. He was preceded in death by five brothers, twins Willard and Willis, Gilbert, Ralph, and Melvin Coyner. Burial will be private in Augusta Memorial Park. A Memorial Service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at Olivet Presbyterian Church by Rev. Harry Johns. The family will receive friends following the service at the Church and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Olivet Presbyterian Church, 1019 Richmond Road, Staunton, VA 24401, the American Heart Association, 4504 Starkey Road, Sw, Suite 115, Roanoke, VA 24018, or to the American Diabetes Foundation, P. O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
