CARL G. BLACKWELL RAPHINE, VA… Carl Glenn “Sonny” Blackwell, 73, of Raphine, died Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Augusta Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born on December 20, 1944 in Staunton to Manuel Harrison and Beulah Wickham Blackwell.  Mr. Blackwell retired after 40 years of service as an operator at Dupont.  He was very active for a number of years at Third Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and Sunday School Superintendent and recently was a member of Jollivue United Methodist Church.  He was an avid softball player and hunter and belonged to the Staunton Elks Club.He is survived by a son, Chad Blackwell and his wife, P.J.; three daughters, Sarah Blackwell of Naples, FL, Bethany Arevalo and her husband, Frank of Waynesboro, and Renee Armstrong of Churchville; two brothers, Donnie Blackwell and his wife, Shirley of Staunton and Robert Blackwell and his wife Brenda of Pinehurst, NC; four grandchildren, Kody Campbell, MacKenzie Armstrong, Kylie Armstrong and Farid Malaab; and best friend, Vickie Mausen. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Thursday, January 18, 2018 at Jollivue United Methodist Church by Rev. Sarah Payne. Burial will follow at Augusta Memorial Park. Active pallbearers are Darren Crosier, Olen Swisher, Shawn Rexrode, Brian Fridley, Jason Allen, and Forrest Campbell.  Honorary pallbearers are Ronnie Duncan and Bill Smith. Family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 in the Henry Funeral Home.  Memorials may be made to Jollivue United Methodist Church, 551 Lee Jackson Hwy, Staunton, VA, 24401.
