CATHERINE "CAT" ARMSTRONG FALLING WATERS, WV Eula Catherine (Simmons) Armstrong, 86, widow of Erskine L. Sandy of 234 Speedway Drive, Falling Waters, WV and formerly a longtime resident of Staunton, died Saturday, October 18, 2014 at her residence. She was born October 6, 1928, in Doe Hill, a daughter of the late William A. and Lydia F. (Crummett) Simmons. Prior to retirement, in 1989, she was employed by IBM in the shipping department with 18 years of service. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by the father of her children, Jack Ray Armstrong; three brothers, Darrell Simmons, Edward "Jake" Simmons, and Joe Arch Simmons; and one sister, Dorothy Hutchens. Family members include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Kathy Armstrong of Falling Waters, WV and Rickie and Sherry Armstrong of Raleigh, NC; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kay and Dale Thompson of Staunton and Mary Jane and Philip Haley of Hedgesville, WV; a brother, Larry Simmons of Churchville; five sisters, Myrtle Simmons, Elizabeth "Duts" Simmons, Charlotte McCray, all of Staunton, Leoda "Lee" Green and Carolyn Pullin, both of Churchville; nine grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 22, 2014, in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. David Shearer. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at the funeral home and other times at the residence of Kay and Dale Thompson, 69 Springfield Lane, Staunton. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1160 Pepsi Place, Suite 306, Charlottesville, VA 22901 or Hospice of the Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville, WV 25430. Mom lived with her son and his wife, Ronald and Kathy Armstrong for the last 16 months. A special thank you to Kathy, who was her caregiver, for taking such good and special care of her and, also, Kathy's sister, Rita. We appreciate and love you so much. Mom was a special lady and we will miss her very much.
