CHARLES L. COOK, JR. FISHERSVILLE, VA….                 Charles Lewis Cook, Jr., 88, entered into eternal peace with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, September 27, 2016, after a valiant battle with mesothelioma.  He was surrounded by his family at home on 1930 Jefferson Highway.                 Charlie was born on July 28, 1928, a son of the late Charles Lewis, Sr. and Thelma Saralee (Coyner) Cook.  He served his country for 20 years in the US Navy as a Chief Electronics Technician on the USS Mindoro, USS Franklin Roosevelt, USS Exploit and USS Kenneth Bailey.  Chief Cook was also an instructor at US Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois and US Naval Guided Missile School, Dam Neck, Virginia.  He received the WWII Victory Medal, US Navy Occupation Service Medal, National Defense Medal and 5 Good Conduct Medals.                 Prior to his retirement, he was employed by General Electric (Genicom) with 23 years of service.                 He was a member of Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church for over 50 years serving as Elder, Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and working with the food pantry and Disciples Kitchen.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Forrest Coyner Cook.  His surviving brother, Fred Cook of Churchville and sister, Lois Breen of Staunton will dearly miss their older brother.                 Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Lena Mahulda (Bright) Cook and lives on in his children: four sons and their wives, Sam and Julie Cook of Stuarts Draft, Charles Lewis Cook III (Chip) of Verona, Scott and Helen Cook of Port Republic, David and Janet Cook of Stuarts Draft, and a daughter and her husband, Robin and Bob Painter of Stuarts Draft; four grandchildren, Sam Cook of Stuarts Draft, Jessica Baker of Evans, Colorado, Shaun Baker of Charleston, South Carolina and Hope Cook of Port Republic; two great grandchildren, Dylan and Devin Baker of Evans, Colorado, who will all cherish loving memories of their father and grandfather and the blessings he added to each of their lives.                  A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 am Saturday, October 1, 2016, in Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church.  Burial will follow in the Church cemetery with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 340.                  The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 pm on Friday, September 30, 2016 in the Henry Funeral Home.                  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Shenandoah, c/o Augusta Health Foundation, PO Box 1000, Fishersville, VA 22939 or to the Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church Food Pantry, 30 Tinkling Spring Drive, Fishersville, VA 22939.
