CHARLES W. HOUFF MT. SIDNEY, VA... Charles William "Bill" Houff passed away Sunday, June 21, 2015. After a Father's Day celebration surrounded by his loving family he peacefully went to meet his Lord. He was born March 2, 1930, in Mt. Sidney, son of the late Charles and Ethel Sheets Houff. He lived in the Mt. Pisgah area all his adult life and was a lifelong member of the Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church where he served as an usher and "unofficial bell ringer" for over 50 years. Bill was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and worked as a brick mason. A devoted husband to Betty Sheets Houff for over 60 years, he had a loving and very close relationship to his daughters and an extremely special bond with his grandchildren. Bill was a selfless man who not only loved his family, but was always available to help those in need. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. In addition to his wife, Betty Sheets Houff, family members include two daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Bobby Shifflett and Betsy and Vince McCormick, all of Mt. Sidney; three grandchildren, Cody Shifflett and Jared and Sophia McCormick; and a sister, Eva Kate Houff Botkin. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph, Dave, and Lacy "Buck" Houff and three sisters, Leota Bailey, Winnie Gayhart, and Nancy Smith. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 in Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church by the Rev. John Crawford, III. Burial will be private in Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-030. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
