CHARLES E. SNYDER, JR. STAUNTON, VA Charles Edward Snyder, Jr., 87, of Staunton, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2013, at Augusta Health, Fishersville. He was born July 18, 1925, in Augusta County, the youngest son of the late Charles Edward, Sr., and Ollie Pearl (Swink) Snyder. He was raised in Churchville and was the last surviving member of his family. He married Lola Marie Murphy on February 12, 1949, and together they raised five sons. Charlie served in the Army during World War II. He worked for many companies after the war until he found his place at Westinghouse from which he retired. He was an avid yard saler and known by many of the local yard sale goers. Charlie was a wonderful wood craftsman. He and Lola made many wonderful, toy boxes, step stools and other wooden crafts for family and friends. He was a member of Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church where he had taught Sunday School, served on committees, was a head usher and helped in the food pantry throughout his membership there. In addition to his parents and siblings, Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Lola; a son, Rodney; and a granddaughter, Katie. He leaves behind a legacy of four sons, Larry and his wife, Mary Jane, of Churchville, Doug and his wife, Jenny, of Staunton, Tim and his friend, Tracy Hermanson Burford, of Churchville, and Dan and his friend, Mary Long, of Staunton. Charlie was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He also leaves behind a daughter-in-law, Barbara Snyder and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2013, in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens by the Rev. Robert W. Sharp. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2013, in the Henry Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in his name to The Boy Scouts of America, Stonewall Jackson Area Council, 801 Hopeman Parkway, Waynesboro, VA 22980.
