CHARLES SWITZER FISHERSVILLE, VA Charles Switzer, 77, widower of Frances Louise (Simmons) Switzer, of Staunton, died Monday, February 16, 2015, in Augusta Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born March 10, 1937, in Augusta County, a son of the late Emily Virginia Switzer. Mr. Switzer was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Prior to retirement, he was a farmer with 39 years of service with Trotwood Farms. He later worked for Blue Ridge Lumber. He was a member of Grace Fellowship Church. Family members include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Cindy and John Strickler, Loretta "Sue" and Greg Daughtry, all of Greenville, and Hope Cousins and fiancé Curtis Ashby, Sr. of Stuarts Draft; two brothers, William Switzer of Crimora and Jackson Switzer of Richmond; two sisters, Eliza Word of Roanoke, and Nancy Stanley of Rocky Mount; three grandchildren, Franklin Kenton and Mary Dull, Emily Ann Gum and fiancé Alex Rankin, and John Ezra Strickler; and a great grandchild, Mason Drake Dull. In addition to his wife and mother, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lula Cary. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday (February 20, 2015) in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Lee Robbins. Burial will follow in Arbor Hill Church of the Brethren Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be R. G. Heizer, Jr., John Kelley Kiser, Andy Carter, Randy Ashby, Clyde Hollingsworth, and Alvin Bosserman. Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Grace Fellowship Church, 701 D Street, Staunton, VA 24401.
