CHRIS H. HARRIS STAUNTON, VA Lucille Christine "Chris" (Hevener) Harris, 82, wife of George B. Harris, of 1600 N. Belmore Ave., died Sunday October 19, 2014, in Augusta Health, Fishersville. She was born December 18, 1931, in Deer Run, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Otto C. and Lona (Wagner) Hevener. Prior to retirement, Mrs. Harris was co-owner & operator with her husband, of Jiffee Mart for 18 years and was co-owner, with her husband and daughter Kim, of Bit n' Bridle Tack Shop. She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Gypsy Hill AARP Chapter, and a former member of Glenmore Hunt Club and Staunton Dance Club. In addition to her husband of 61 years, family members include two daughters, Kim Harris of Staunton and Connie Harris of Dallas, Texas; a sister, Alma Driver; a brother-in-law, James Harris; a sister-in-law, Donna Ashby; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great, great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Stanley Hevener; two sisters, Evelyn Shaw and Marion Hevener; and a special friend, Paul Christ. In past years, Chris & George were very active & involved in the horse world while their daughters were riding, competing at horse shows & fox hunting. They all owned many horse over the years, including a racehorse. Chris also loved to dance and she & George belonged to several dance clubs. She, above all else, loved her family & the Lord. She enjoyed following politics & the stock market, reading, was a talented seamstress & cook and when able, loved traveling with her family. A funeral service will be conducted on Monday, November 3 at 12:00 p.m. at St. John's United Methodist Church by the Rev. Taylor Mertins. A reception will follow. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be David Driver, Jeff Harris, Jeff Driver, Harold Ralston, Wilford Kirby, Marshall Kirby, Clay Sterrett and Tommy Vames. Honorary pallbearers will be the St. John's United Methodist Men. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Thursday, October 23, 2014, in the Henry Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church, Memorial Fund, 1716 N. Augusta Street, Staunton, VA 24401 or to Staunton Augusta Rescue Squad Auxiliary, 1601 North Coalter Street, Staunton, VA 24401.
