CLARENCE H. HUTCHENS STAUNTON, VA Clarence Hamlin Hutchens, 95, widower of Dorothy Louise (Simmons) Hutchens, of Staunton, died Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at his residence. He was born June 1, 1920, in Augusta County, a son of the late Guy Payton and Minnie Bell (Thomas) Hutchens. Mr. Hutchens was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army after having served during World War II. Prior to retirement, he was employed at Basic Witz Furniture and by the Holiday Inn in the maintenance department. He was a lifetime member of the Staunton Eagles #680 and the VFW and a member of the Waynesboro Moose Lodge. Family members include his caregivers, Dennis Stephenson and Charlotte Smith; four nephews, Buddy, Bobby, Jeff, and Eddie Hutchens; two special nieces, B.J. Simmons and Barbara Masincup; and a special brother-in-law, Larry Dean Simmons of Churchville; numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Aubrey Peyton Hutchens, Robert Ray Hutchens, and Harry Earl Hutchens; and a sister, Edna May Derflinger. A graveside service will be conducted in the mausoleum at Oak Lawn at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 8, 2015 by the Rev. Harold W. "Pete" Campbell. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday, June 7, 2015 in the Henry Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Shenandoah, P.O. Box 215, Fishersville, VA 22939 or Meals on Wheels of Staunton, P.O. Box 2354, Staunton, VA 24402.
