Cora Beatrice (Howerton) McKenzie Funk, 77, widow of John Harold Funk, went to be with our Heavenly Father on Friday, January 4, 2013 in Our Lady of the Valley Nursing Home in Roanoke. She was born on December 14, 1935 in Bud, WV, a daughter of the late Louie R. and Ella D. (Shrewsberry) Howerton. Mrs. Funk received her Bachelor of Arts from Mary Baldwin College, with a major in sociology. Prior to retirement, she taught in the Augusta County School System, was employed by Valley Services for the Aging, and was a tour guide for the P. Buckley Moss Museum. Family members include three sons, Jack Thomas McKenzie, Jr. of Waynesboro, Timothy L. McKenzie of Roanoke, and Wayne L. McKenzie of Waynesboro; a daughter Elizabeth Jean Southwood of Charlottesville; a brother, William P. Howerton of Princeton, WV; a sister, Elva F. Southern of Princeton; and nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Jack Thomas McKenzie; three sisters, Carrie M. Aldridge, Thelma and Mary Lee McAlister; and a grandchild. A funeral service will be conducted at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Henry Funeral Home by Rev. Randall Black. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. in Elgood Cemetery in Mercer County, WV.
