COVIE B. BRANDT STAUNTON, VA Covie (nee Bingman) Brandt, 96, of Middlebrook died on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at her home, surrounded by her family. She is the widow of the late William Jennings Brandt, and a long-time resident of Augusta County. Her family and friends knew Covie as a godly woman, a loyal friend, a caring mother and grandmother, a loving wife, and an avid bridge player. She was a woman of extraordinary grace and intelligence, incisive wit, indomitable and independent. Covie was born on April 8, 1918 in Patrick County, Virginia, to John Bingman and Ophelia nee Neal. A stay-at home-mom for most of her married life, she is survived by her children: Wesley Brandt and his wife Gloria of Middlebrook, Philip Brandt and his wife Marsha of Jonesborough, TN, and Rev. Douglas Brandt and his wife Katie of Peters Township, PA. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Monique Merriman of Richmond, John Brandt of Middlebrook, Laura Brandt of New Zealand, Ashley Stinson of Jonesborough, TN, Alexandra Brandt of Atlanta, Markus Brandt of California, Sean Brandt of California, and Benji Brandt of Pennsylvania. In addition to grandchildren, she is survived by 2 great-grandchildren, Taylor and Elin Stinson. Covie was a long-time member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, having served that congregation on various committees, women's fellowship groups, and on one pastoral nominating committee. She also served as a deacon. A graveside service will be held at the Bethel Presbyterian Church cemetery on Sunday, September 7 at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall of the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to the general fund of Bethel Presbyterian Church. Henry Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
