Charles G. Smith

Charles G. “Greg” Smith, 73, husband of Judy (Downs) Smith of Staunton, died Friday, January 8, 2021 at Augusta Health.

Greg was born on February 12, 1947 in Annapolis, MD to the late Robert Vance and Claudia E. (Parker) Smith.

He served in the United States Air Force for four years. He was a member of Valley Baptist Church where he was an active deacon. Greg retired from Verizon as a technician. He sang with the High on the Mountain Boys and, also sang in many church functions and several nursing home ministries.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Jesse Smith and wife, Beverly of Waynesboro, and Pastor John Smith and wife, Christy of Mt. Sidney; three brothers, Donald Smith and wife, Pinkie of Chesapeake, Melvin Smith and wife, Nadia of Fair Play, South Carolina, and Pastor Richard Smith and wife, Sherri of Chesapeake; one sister, Linda Leigh and husband, J.P. of Suffolk; six grandchildren, Morgan Little and husband, Cameron, Ashley Biernat and husband, Josh, Travis Smith, Mackenzie Smith, Witley Smith, and Josiah Smith.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Old Paths Baptist Church in Weyers Cave.

A Church Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 15, 2021 at the Old Paths Baptist Church, Weyers Cave by Pastor John Smith and Pastor Frank Hall. Burial will be private at Augusta Memorial Park with military honors. The church will be streaming the service live on YouTube at oldpathsbaptistchurchva or the church website at oldpathsbaptistchurchva.com.

Active pallbearers will be Pastor Richard Smith, David Downs, Travis Smith, Josh Biernat, Cameron Little and Tommy Fortune. Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Smith, Homer Smith, J.P. Leigh and Josiah Smith.
