Charles William Thurber
Charles William “Billy” Thurber, 90, of Verona, went to be with the Lord on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022.
He was born in Staunton on November 7, 1931, son of the late Clinton William and Etta Florence (Wills) Thurber.
Billy was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.
Prior to retirement, he was a driver for Smith’s Transfer and also worked for VDOT.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Sheila Thurber; and many special cousins.
In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his brother, Gene Thurber; and his sister and brother-in-law, Peggy Ann (Thurber) and Clay Marshall Back.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2022 in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Ryan Oswald. Interment will follow in Thornrose Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Active pallbearers will be Wayne Paxton, Donald Spencer, Vince Shaver, Kevin Phillips, Wilbur Phillips, and Larry Wills.
The family expresses their appreciation to Dr. Jim LaGrua, AH Hospice of the Shenandoah, and Billy’s caregivers for their compassionate care.
