Clara L. (Slayton) Guffey, 91, widow of Basil Arrie Guffey, Sr., passed away on December 15, 2021 at her home.
Mrs. Guffey was born on December 4, 1930, in Highland County to the late Earley and Maggie (Halterman) Slayton.
Mrs. Guffey was a member of the Staunton Orthodox Presbyterian Church. She worked as a school crossing guard before retirement and worked in the laundry at Western State Hospital. She also enjoyed spending time at the Staunton Senior Center.
She is survived by her sons, Basil A. Guffey, Jr., and wife Tina (Rusmisell) of North Carolina and Joseph Wayne Guffey, and wife Deborah of Kentucky; her daughter, Patricia Ann Hiner of Staunton; her grandchildren, Randy Hiner, Chris Guffey, Amanda Gabbard, Carla Luders, and Amy Thompson; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter, Evie.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Roy E. Guffey.
At this time the family requests privacy, and all services will be held privately.
