DALLAS M. HEMP MIDDLEBROOK, VA Dallas Monroe Hemp, 85, of 295 Sinking Springs Road, died Tuesday, December 2, 2014, at his residence. He was born October 7, 1929, in Augusta County a son of the late Otie McCutchan and Arbra Pauline (Berry) Hemp. Prior to retirement, Mr. Hemp owned and operated Sinking Springs Farm with his family. He was a member of Old Providence ARP Church where he served on the Board of Trustees, was Deacon, Elder, Trustee, served as secretary and trustor of the Sunday School Class, and was active in Synod and Presbytery. He was a member of the ASCS committee and Farmers Home Committee. He will be remembered for his generosity, sense of humor, and love of family and church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann B. Hemp; a brother, B. McCutchan Hemp; and two sisters, Mary Catherine Hutchens and Evelyn Switzer. Family members include a son and daughter-in-law, Michael D. and Katrina A. Hemp of Middlebrook; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen H. and Stuart F. Eckard of Middlebrook; a brother, Joe L. Hemp of Staunton; two sisters, Iva English of Martinsburg, West Virginia and Ruby Switzer of Bridgewater; five grandchildren, Joseph F. Eckard, Arbra N. Butler and husband, Chuck, Jared M. Hemp, Amanda G. Hemp and Matthew R. Fortune, and Lauren R. Eckard; and seven great grandchildren, Brett M. Butler, Brendon T. Fortune, Colton M. Hemp, Ian M. Eckard-Lawson, Brady C. Butler, Carter J. Fortune, and Ayla-Dawn G. Fortune. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 5, 2014 in Old Providence ARP Church by the Rev. H. Max Bolin. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jared Hemp, Chuck Butler, Matthew Fortune, Eddie Sensabaugh, Lynwood Phillips, Hedley Coffey, Dr. Rob Marsh, and Scott Earhart. Honorary pallbearers will be the elders of the church. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, December 4, 2014 in the Henry Funeral Home and other times at his residence. Special thanks to Tina Crawford, Ellen Fitzgerald, and others who provided care and support.
