DAVID H. FITZGERALD   STAUNTON, VA...David Hubert Fitzgerald, 81, husband of Patricia (Tharp) Fitzgerald, of Staunton, passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2015.He was born February 2, 1934, in Rockbridge County, a son of the late Samuel J. and Nellie (Leslie) Fitzgerald.Prior to retirement, he worked in the Benger Lab at DuPont. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church.He had a booth for many years in the Verona Antique Mall and together with his wife they owned the Candy Stripe Day Nursery in Verona.David was a kind and supportive friend to all and had an incredible sense of humor. He was known for his butchering skills and shared his knowledge with members of the FFA and the community. He loved his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.He is survived by his wife of 61 years whom he wed June 12, 1954. Additionally he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, David C. and Connie (Armstrong) Fitzgerald and Eric L. and Nancy (Rohrer) Fitzgerald; three grandchildren, Rachel McNamara and husband, Douglas, Sarah Capaldo and husband, Brian, and Clinton Fitzgerald; and two great grandchildren, Ella and Flynn McNamara.He was preceded in death by five brothers, Coleman, Arnold, Thomas, William, and Lawrence Fitzgerald and a sister, Lula Maybush.He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 5, 2015, at St. John's United Methodist Church by the Rev. Taylor C. Mertins. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens.Active pallbearers will be Brian Capaldo, Douglas McNamara, Clinton Fitzgerald, Benny Fitzgerald, Amos Fitzgerald, and Dennis Landes.The family will receive friends from 4 until 6:30 p.m. Friday, December 4, 2015, at the church.Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
