DAVID C. POTTER STAUNTON, VA David Campbell Potter, 91, widower of Mabel Elizabeth (Mynes) Potter, of 2108 First Street, died Thursday, May 8, 2014, in Augusta Health, Fishersville. He was born March 26, 1923, in Rockbridge County, a son of the late John David and Geneva Mae (Potter) Potter Mr. Potter was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during WWII during the 7th wave of D-Day, Rhineland, and Battle of the Bulge with the 29th Division 116th Infantry. Prior to retirement, Mr. Potter owned Potter's Auto and Mower Service. He was also employed by Young's Hardware for fifteen years. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church where he was part of the Rejoice Choir, Adult Fellowship Class, Sunshine Group, WeCare Ministries, and a song leader for the Sunday School Class. He was also a longtime member of the Sonrise Pickers and life member of the Disabled American Veterans. In addition to his wife of 67 years, who preceded him in death on December 4, 2009, he was also preceded in death by four brothers, Ruben, William, Herman, and Merlin "Dink"; and seven sisters, Irene Gilmer, Martha Potter, Marianne Kesterson, Nema Myers, Sarah "Sis" Lucas, Caroline Ralston, and Myrtle Kubis. Family members include a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Roger Eagle of Staunton; two grandchildren, David Eagle and his wife, Tracey, and Kevin Eagle and his wife, Jennifer; five great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Eagle, Isaac Eagle, Audrey Eagle, Lleyton Eagle, and Caedmon Eagle; a special nephew, Kenneth Campbell; a special friend, Oren Kniceley; and a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 12, 2014, in St. Paul's United Methodist Church by the Revs. Gene Williams and Wade Munford. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Earl Cox, Junior Conner, Corky Smith, John Thompson, Bill Campbell, Jim Taylor, Jack Earhart, and Aubrey Jackson. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Adult Fellowship Class and Sunshine Group. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2014, at Henry Funeral Home and also at his daughter's residence, 2107 First Street, Staunton.
