David Erby Shell

DAVID E. SHELL STAUNTON, VA David Erby Shell, 83, husband of Joyce Glover Shell, of 1045 Westmoreland Drive, died Friday, February 28, 2014, at Augusta Health, Fishersville. He was born September 2, 1930, in Elizabethton, TN, a son of the late Warner and Katherine (Heaton) Shell. Mr. Shell was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during the Korean War. He received a B.S. Degree from East Tennessee State College and a M.A. Degree from East Tennessee State University. He taught school in Carter County, Tennessee for three years, Bath County for two years, Augusta County for four years, and twenty-one years in Staunton at Lee High School, John Lewis Junior High, and Shelburne Middle School. He was a member of Staunton Church of the Brethren, Masonic Elizabethton Lodge, and Staunton Elks. In addition to his wife of 53 years, family members include two sons and a daughter-in-law, David and Rebecca Shell and Michael Warner Shell, all of Staunton; a step-grandchild, Olivia Perry; a sister, Phyllis Shell Reed of Jonesboro, TN; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil and Warner, Jr. and three sisters, Helen Martin, Francis Harvey, and Ruth Laurain. A celebration of life will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, in Staunton Church of the Brethren by Pastor Scott Duffy. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends following the service. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
