Dorothy Elizabeth (Carroll) Thacker

DOROTHY C. THACKER ROANOKE, VA… Dorothy Elizabeth (Carroll) Thacker, 105, widow of Frederick Duke Thacker, formerly of Staunton, died Monday, December 19, 2016, in Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born June 16, 1911, in West Augusta, a daughter of the late Edward Kenney and Jane Elizabeth (Whistleman) Carroll. Prior to retirement, Mrs. Thacker was employed by Staunton Military Academy with 23 years of service. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by a grandson, Frederick Lee Thacker; seven sisters; a son-in-law, Norvell W. West, II; and a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Lee Burleson Thacker. Family members include two sons, Frederick Carroll Thacker of Shawnee, Kansas and Charles Edward Thacker and wife, Lupe Rios Thacker, of Fulton, IL; a daughter, JoAnn Thacker West of Roanoke; five grandchildren, Frank Burleson, Valerie Ann Thacker, Patricia Ann Thacker Doll, Steven Edward Thacker, and Norvell Winston West III; 11 great grandchildren; and three great, great grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2017 in Memorial Baptist Church by Pastors Mark Jones and Temple Myers. A private burial was held in Thornrose Cemetery. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
