Dorothy Lee Fox

DOROTHY J. FOX STAUNTON, VA Dorothy Lee Jarvis Fox of Fishersville passed away Monday morning at Birch Gardens where she happily lived since May. Dorothy was married to Carl C. Fox for 45 years and had two children, Harry W. Fox of Stuarts Draft and Dana Fox Jenkins of Buffalo, New York. The foundations of her life were her family and her church. She loved her four grandsons, Edward, Adam, John, and David Fox and some of her happiest memories were of them growing up in and around her house. More recently her great-grandson Winston, became the source of many stories and the reason for many smiles. Born to Dana Callie and Harry Lee Jarvis of Timber Ridge, Virginia, Dorothy grew up in the ARP Church; moving from singing psalms there to hymns at Olivet Presbyterian Church more than 50 years ago. As she raised her family she also actively served her church in many capacities. She taught Sunday School, organized Bible School, served as a Deacon and the Chairperson of her circle, and sang in the choir until a year ago. She prepared and served hundreds of meals in the church kitchen and once remarked that she rarely left her driveway without having a cake or a casserole in the trunk of her car. Dorothy worked at Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center for twenty-five years and valued her colleagues, the physicians she supported, and the mission they shared. All who knew her whether from family time, the church or through work, knew her as a woman of great generosity and kindness. She gave with both hands and loved long. We all knew my father lived longer because of her loving attention to him. Her resilience after his death was a lesson in ongoing love to all of us. We will be forever grateful for the lessons she taught us, the values she instilled in us, the recipes she passed down, and the memories of a home life grounded in love, respect, laughter, and hard work. In addition to her children she is survived by her daughter-in-law, Mary Ryan Fox and her son-in-law, Larry Jenkins, both of whom loved her and who she loved. The family wants to acknowledge the support shown by those who visited with her in the last few months of her life especially her sister-in-law Helen Craig and niece Jackie. The funeral will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at Olivet Presbyterian Church with a graveside service following at Augusta Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are being made by Henry Funeral Home.
