DOROTHY G. WOODRUM STUARTS DRAFT, VA Dorothy "Gayle" Woodrum died on Saturday, March 1, 2014, after a long and brave battle with cancer. Gayle was born on January 19, 1947 in Staunton, Virginia to the late Dorothy Lee (Parker) and C. Ronald Woodrum. Prior to retirement, Gayle served as the Director of Nursing/Admissions Director for Augusta Nursing. She was highly respected in the local medical community and dedicated her nursing career to other medical communities. She received her RN from the Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley School of Nursing. In addition to her compassion for others and service to God, Gayle was an avid animal lover, accomplished musician, and a wonderful cook. She hosted many "family feasts"! Gayle also enjoyed swimming, loved the beach, and gardening. She was a second mom to many, encouraging and motivating others, and brought fun and humor to every situation. Family and friends will long remember her impersonations and costumes. She brought laughter to the lives of all who knew her. Gayle was a dedicated member of the Truth, Light, and Life Mission in Penn Laird, Virginia and servant to The Lord. As a member of Prison Fellowship USA she was an active volunteer at both Augusta Correctional Center and Staunton Correctional Center. Gayle is survived by two daughters, Lisa Doering Page and husband Jim of Oviedo, FL, and Mary Doering Tuazon and husband Ricky of Raleigh, NC; one grandchild, Isabel Tuazon, who was the light of her life. A sister, Bonnie Parker Woodrum Lessley and husband Byron, of Staunton, VA, and a brother, John Marion Woodrum and wife, Dawn of Mount Sidney, VA, also survive her. In addition, Gayle will be profoundly missed by nephews, David Lessley and wife Leanne, Sam Lessley and wife Amy; niece, Hannah Woodrum; great-nieces, Eliana and Norah Lessley, and many extended family. Gayle and family would like to extend love and special appreciation to Jan Sotiros for her ongoing friendship dedicated care giving and support, and to Michael Doering, father of their children, and lifelong partner and friend. A funeral service will be held at the Henry Funeral Home Chapel at 12 Noon on Thursday, March 6, 2014, by Pastor Kevin Campbell. Friends and family may visit the family at Henry Funeral Home one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton, VA. Honorary pallbearers will include: John Woodrum, Ricky Tuazon, Jim Page, Byron Lessley, David Lessley, Sam Lessley, Chris Simmons, Andrew Simmons, Micahel Doering, and the many friends and family who have helped during this difficult time.
