Dorothy Kathleen (Eutsler) Hess, 94, widow of John Edward “Ed” Hess of Mt. Sidney, died Saturday, July 24, 2021 at Birch Gardens Assisted Living.

Mrs. Hess was born on December 28, 1926 in Augusta County and raised by Charles and Fannie (Eutsler) Baker.

Dorothy worked at Hosiery Mill for a number of years where she met her husband. She then worked for 20 years in the cafeteria at Fort Defiance High School where she retired.

She was a member of Verona United Methodist Church and the New Hope Chorus. She loved baking and cooking and would feed anyone who came into her house. She loved her family very much and especially spoiling her grandchildren.

Surviving family members include two daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Ronnie Whisman of Staunton, and Judy and Don Myers of Ft. Defiance; a brother, Charles Baker, Jr. of Waynesboro; three grandchildren, Tammy Whisman-Dietz and husband Jeff Dietz, Matt Whisman and wife Jamie, and Mandy Myers and fiancé, Byron Dodson; two great grandchildren, Megan Brown and fiancé Bill Collins, and Jacob Callison; a great-great grandson, Mason Brown; special friends who she thought of as daughters, Patty Lambert Botkin, Barbara Lambert, Charlotte Craig, and Tina Truslow; and special friends, Lena Robertson, David Beverage, Becky Craig and family, Pete Reeves, Brenda and Doug Mitchell, and Gene and Natalie Harvey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Sheets and Charlotte Simmons.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 31, 2021 in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends any time at either one of the daughters’ residences.

Active pallbearers will be Steve Mitts, Doug Mitchell, Mike Myers, and Randy Harris.
