Dorothy D. Sandridge

Waynesboro, VA…   Dorothy Elizabeth (Davis) Sandridge, 92, widow of Earl Sandrige, of 547 New Hope and Crimora Road, passed away Friday, March 16, 2018 at her residence. She was born on January 26, 1926 in Augusta County, a daughter of the late Hubert Lee and Pearl Elizabeth (Moore) Davis. Dorothy worked many jobs in her lifetime. Her favorite, of course, was babysitting-a job she did until age 83.  She often smiled as she recalled many children who, now, have children of their own. She was one of those people who made an impression. She touched each person in a way that only she could, usually by food. She will be remembered for her Mandarin Orange Cakes, hot apple turnovers, and 10 pounds of potatoes cooked three different ways at Christmas Dinner.  Her smile and laughter were contagious and her wit was quick and sharp.  She loved as Jesus would have us all love each other. Surviving family members include three daughters, Anna L. Spitler, Bonnie M. Durham, and Brenda E. Chaplin; three granddaughters, Misty D. (Jeff) Turner, Monica L. Chandler and Christina E. Chaplin; a special grandson, Tracy L. Cash; and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Cecil Cash; and a son, Roger A. Cash. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m., Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at Midway Bible Baptist Church by Pastor Richard Owens. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Kenny Mays, Pete Brown, H.W. Link, Jimmy Shifflett, Junior Gregory and Jeff Turner. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. prior to the service at the church. The family would like to thank Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah, Melissa Link, Leanne Cruise, Ann Weiland, Audrey Deese, Ernie and Gloria Sutherland, Debby Pritchett, Frances Carr and her “family” from Midway Bible Baptist Church. Memorial donations may be made to Midway Bible Baptist Church, 29 Midway Lane, Fishersville, VA 22939 or Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah, P.O. Box 215, Fishersville, VA  22939.
