Dr. Jane B. Taylor

Jane Bartlett Taylor, 83, of Afton, VA passed away February 2, 2023.

She was born April 15, 1939 in Urbana, IL.

She received a B.S. in Liberal Arts from University of Illinois, followed by a M.S. and Ph.D., both in Zoology and from University of Hawaii.

Jane was an avid traveler, living and teaching abroad in Turkey and Japan before beginning her graduate studies in Marine Biology at Kane’hoe Bay, HI. Returning to the mainland, Jane taught at Prescott College, leading many adventure-filled field trips to Bahia Kino. Jane taught all aspects of Life Science at Northern Virginia Community College from 1976 to her retirement in 2008. She had a beautiful singing voice and was a member of many church and community choirs such as Crozet Choir and Scola Cantorum. Jane was fascinated by the natural world, became a Virginia Master Gardener, and designed several arboretums.

She is survived by her daughter, Maria (Curtis) Chi of Durham, NC; her grandson, Victor Chi of Matthews, NC; her partner, James Maxwell of Waynesboro, VA; and her dear friend, Gail Clark of Crozet, VA.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Vera May Bartlett; her father, James Holly Bartlett; her sisters, Susan Bartlett and Holly Bartlett; and her former husband, David LeRoy Taylor.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Waynesboro. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Nature Camp Foundation.
