EDNA C. PAINTER STEELES TAVERN, VA Edna Earl "Toad" (Cash) Painter, 93, wife of W. Ray Painter, of 13 Bills Lane, died Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at Blue Ridge Christian Home, Raphine, where she resided for the last six months. She was born September 15, 1919, in Augusta County, a daughter of the late Harry Hamilton and Gertrude Jane (Weeks) Cash. Prior to retirement, Mrs. Painter was employed by DuPont. She was a member of New Providence Presbyterian Church. In addition to her husband of 65 years, family members include a son and daughter-in-law, Thad R. and Jeanne L. Painter of Steeles Tavern; a sister, Isabelle Cash of Beulah Land Drive, Raphine; two grandchildren, Ashley Painter and her fiancée, Buddy Chandler, and Allison Painter Engleman and her husband, Matthew; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charlie Cash and Tracy H. Cash; and a sister, Mollie Sorrells. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 25, 2012, at Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church Cemetery by the Rev. Keith A. Cornfield and Mr. Melvin Bender, the administrator of Blue Ridge Christian Home. Active pallbearers will be Fred Lunsford, Dean Lunsford, Joe Fauber, Erskine Cash, Johnny Harris, Buddy Holbert, Pete Rowe, and Wally Poole. Honorary pallbearers will be C. L. Cash, Kit Painter, Euley Phillips, Gary Price, and Junior Rowe. The family will receive friends at the residence of Ray and Thad Painter. Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
