EDWARD S. SHOEMAKER STAUNTON, VA… Edward Stanley Shoemaker, 73, widower of Linda Kay (Coyner) Shoemaker, of Staunton, died Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at his residence. He was born April 19, 1943, in Harrisonburg, a son of the late Loren Franklin and Myrtle Lucille (Shifflett) Hoover. Prior to retirement, he was employed by Hershey Chocolate in Stuarts Draft. Mr. Shoemaker was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Harrisonburg. He was an active member for over 30 years with the Staunton Volunteer Fire Department and enjoyed his time with the Oak Ridge Hunt Club. Family members include a daughter and son-in-law, Melynda (Shoemaker) and Linwood Walton of Norfolk; two grandchildren, Linda Riley and Skyler Lin Walton; a brother, Carroll Hoover of Penn Laird; a half-brother, Steven Shoemaker; a half-sister, Stacy Shoemaker Davis; nephews, Wes, Danny, and Preston Hoover; and a very special niece, Heather Benson Eppard. Also dear to Ed were his very dear and special group of friends over the years from Hilton Head, SC, Seacrest Resort. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a half-brother, Stan Shoemaker and Owen Stanley Shoemaker. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 2, 2017 in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Greenville United Methodist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Wes Hoover, Danny Hoover, Preston Hoover, Dale Truxell, Roy Grough, and Alan Landes.
